(Savannah, GA) The 2005 Coca-Cola Late Model season
champion at Oglethorpe Speedway Park, Robert Diekemper of
Bloomingdale, was united in marriage to his seven year
sweetheart Kristen Foote at a family ceremony this morning.
The 20-year-old young gun just finished up collecting over
$6,000 in cash awards for his first NASCAR championship
season at the historic half mile speedway just outside of
Savannah, GA.
“Today was our seventh year anniversary of our
first date,” said the groom. “We were talking about waiting
until just before the racing season. But, we were kind of
stuck on celebrating our first date anniversary.”
The newlyweds were planning to spend this
afternoon helping Robert’s younger twin brothers at the
speedway. Joseph and Justin Diekemper compete at Oglethorpe
Speedway Park in the Go Kart Winter Shoot-Out Series.
“The rainy weather changed those plans,” added
Robert. “The track cancelled the go kart races. So I guess
we will do something else.”
Diekemper is already making plans to compete at
the 2nd Annual Coca-Cola Young Guns Shoot-Out
presented by Stock Car Racing and Circle Track Magazines.
He will also compete in both of the Crate Late Model
Winternationals events that same weekend before beginning
his defense of the season title at OSP in March.
“Robert is a great competitor and has grown in
to an outstanding young man,” said track promoter Ted Austad.
“Kristen and he make a nice couple and she loves his
racing. I am sure with Robert’s passion for competition
that was essential.”
Oglethorpe Speedway Park continues it’s Go Kart
Winter Shoot-Out Series on Saturday, December 31 with double
features in all divisions. The speedway will welcome back
the stock cars the first weekend of February before the
world’s fastest motorcycle riders open their points season
with the AMA National Hot Shoe Series March 3. For
