(Savannah, GA) Oglethorpe
Speedway Park and IMCA Racing officials announced today that
the first-ever IMCA Winter Nationals would take place,
February 2nd, 3rd and 4th
at the historic South Georgia ½-mile.
Two-nights of full-blown IMCA Modified competition will
highlight the weekend along with the 2nd Annual
Coca-Cola Young Guns Shootout presented by Stock Car Racing
and Circle Track Magazines.
“IMCA provided the perfect fit and sanction for our Winter
Nationals event,” stated Ted Austad, Oglethorpe Speedway
Park track operator. “We’re very enthusiastic about adding
IMCA to this event in its infancy. Hopefully, this will grow
to become one of the most anticipated events each February
as everyone looks to begin the season.
The Young Guns event is designed for short track competitors
23-years old and younger and showcases all of their talents,
much like a motorsports training combine, while the IMCA
Modified event will showcase ultra competitive racing on the
demanding ½-mile speedway.
“These are the types of events that IMCA is thrilled
to be a part of,” offered Brett Root, vice president of
operations for IMCA. “Ted Austad has always been a great
supporter of IMCA and we are thankful that the Stone’s, Ted
and the Oglethorpe staff have chosen to go with IMCA as the
sanctioning body of choice for the Modified portion of their
Winter Nationals event.
On Friday, February 3rd, the IMCA Modifieds will
race for $1,000-to-win in a 25-lap dash, while on Saturday
the 4th, the stakes will be raised to
$1,200-to-win with a 30-lap event on deck. The IMCA Winter
Nationals kicks off on Thursday, February 2nd,
with an open practice.
The open practice will have a pit fee of will be $15, with a
Friday / Saturday, weekend pass available for $50
(individual days $25 Friday, $30 Saturday). All ages will be
admitted into the pits with any person under the age of 17
