(Savannah, GA) Oglethorpe
Speedway Park continues to churn out new winners as a near
record forty-three different drivers have visited victory
lane at the historic half mile speedway this season.
Ridgeland South Carolina’s Buster Kleckley collected his
first Southern Racing Supplies Pure Stock feature while
Rincon’s Ricky Kellam won for the first time this year in
the Four Star Security 440 division.
‘Rapid’ Ray
Collins also returned to his early season form winning the
Love’s Seafood Street Stock feature while Casey Barrow
visited the winner’s circle for the second time in three
weeks in the Coca-Cola Late Models as did Josh Carter in the
Sunset Novelties Mini Stocks.
Buster
Kleckley worked his way forward using the inside and outside
racing grooves during the 15-lap Pure Stock feature.
Kleckley snuck past Billy Oglesby on lap seven and then held
off a final charge by Donnie Cannon to win his first trophy
of the season. Current points leader Dan Douglas was third
followed by Terron Roberts and Anthony Parker. Walter
Sills, Chris Hinely, John Rewis, Charles Williams and Cari
Howze rounded out the first ten drivers across the stripe.
In the 440
feature event, Ricky Kellam used a second lap caution to
jump out front of Andrew Langley. He then held off Michael
Bean and Jason Rewis in a fierce, hard fought battle to the
checkered flag. Danny Herrington was fourth followed by
Cody Brant. WR Rewis, Jim Keister, Phillip Dickerson, Dan
Keener and Andrew Langley.
The race for
the points title in the Love’s Seafood Street Stocks remains
close. But, ‘Rapid’ Ray Collins is doing everything he can
to lock up his first career championship at Oglethorpe
Speedway Park. He did a good job of making it tougher this
past weekend after working past Nicky Smith and then
fighting off the advances of Albert Cosnahan. It was
Collins third win of the year and padded his lead in the
points with only three races left in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series points season.
Casey Barrow
waited patiently for the top two cars in the Coca-Cola Late
Models to finally do each other in while battling for the
first place spot. Keith White and Garrett Shurling were
both looking to become the fourteenth different driver to
win in the fast late model division.
Barrow’s
patience paid off big dividends when White and Shurling
locked horns in turn two resulting in the race’s final
caution. When White and Shurling were placed at the rear of
the field, Barrow had clear sailing to his second win in
three weeks. Last week’s winner Sean Meeks was second
followed by Dusty Williams, Branden Yawn and Donnie
Bazemore.
Barrow and
Meeks just graduated from South Effingham High School last
May while Branden Yawn is a high school sophomore in
Effingham County. Dusty Williams is twenty-six years old
while Donnie Bazemore started racing at Oglethorpe Speedway
Park before all four drivers were born.
In the Sunset
Novelties Mini Stocks, Josh Carter won for the second time
in three weeks. Carter outlasted Chris Johnson and Brian
Turner to collect the hardware for the four cylinder stock
car class.
