‘YOUNG GUNS' PREPARE FOR BUSY FRIDAY NIGHT

Savannah, GA - Hundreds of students are preparing this week for commencement exercises at the South Effingham High School.  Four of those students are trying to figure out how they can participate with their classmates in graduation and then get to Oglethorpe Speedway Park prior to the feature race for their NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series division.

‘Flat Footin’ Casey Barrow, Sean Meeks, Phillip Dickerson and Michael Screen will graduate from South Effingham High School on Friday night at 7:00pm.  They are also scheduled to race in the Coca-Cola Late Models, Four Star Security 440s and Sunset Novelties Mini Stock feature races beginning around 9:30pm Friday night at Oglethorpe Speedway Park.

“I wanted to get my diploma on Monday so I wouldn’t have to worry about being late for the race,” said Casey Barrow.  “My mom would not let me do that.”

Barrow and Meeks are planning to bring their race cars to the track early this Friday so they can prepare for graduation, participate in the ceremonies and then race back out to the track to get ready for stock car racing.  Dickerson and Screen may do the same depending upon repairs to their race cars this week after being involved in accidents this past Friday night at OSP.

Meeks comes into this Friday’s NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series event sixth in the overall standings for the Coca-Cola Late Models.  He also moved to second place in the “rookie of the year” standings this past Friday night posting his best finish of the year in third.

Barrow dropped to the number twelve spot this week after a disappointing disqualification last Friday night after what appeared to be his first career NASCAR victory.

“We have a lot of family coming in for the graduation,” said Dennis Barrow, Casey’s father.  “They also wanted to see him race.  We will do both this Friday night.”

Oglethorpe Speedway Park promoter Ted Austad will do all he can to allow the graduates time to get from the high school to the speedway after graduation.  The late models, 440’s and mini stocks will run towards the end of the show Friday night.
